Tip 1-5
1. If it is still cold in an early spring night, it is not necessary to go out for photographing prematurely because insects themselves also haven't prepared for flying out.
2. Some insects will spend the night on the flower, so you may still find that they are sleepy, it is relatively easy to photograph them.
3. It is easier to be close before the completion of warm-up of the insect, because they will not so active, and will remain staying on the flower more.
4. When you are close to insects, you should avoid sudden and abrupt movements.
5. Avoid casting the shadow of you or your camera on the flower. If it can not be avoided, you must remember to use photo editor to dispose the shadow.
Tip 6-10
6. If you photograph insects from the top, then try to make photographic plane parallel to the insects; if you take away the wings of butterflies, you can photograph from the side.
7. Telephoto macro lens such as 200mm can increase the working distance, which is more favorable.
8. Do not use tripods in order to increase the flexibility of photographing.
9. If possible, change the lens into VR (Nikon) or IS (Canon) in order to reduce vibration.
10. If you photograph the flowers which grows in a lower position, you can knelt on one knee and make one knee brace the elbow to steady the photography.
Tip 11-15
11. Try to make the insects represent more significant position of the composition.
12. To photograph active insects, you should use a higher shutter speed, and it suggests that you should install the flash onto the bracket.
13. Use wireless flash system such as Nikon R1C1 SU-800 and two SB-R200s, photograph around the lens; or use a group again to get the background light.
14. When photographing butterflies, bees or hover flies, you can photograph their heads, because they will use unique organ to take in nectar.
15. In the condition of wind or less light, you can push the ISO high to get a clear picture.
Tip 16-20
16. When photographing, you should not only straight down, but also try to photograph banner photos.
17. Depth of field is an important consideration, so you can use aperture priority or manual mode.
18. Reduce the aperture to get deeper depth of field, or increase the depth of field to photograph the creative work.
19. Do not neglect hearing, because the hornets and wasps fly have their own unique sound, you will get a surprise if you follow the sound.
20. Do not be persistent on photographing the insects' back, unless you intend to carry out ecological certification.
